Oil Pastels

Here are three oil pastel pieces that i completed a small while ago. Two are from Altea - in Spain, whilst the third is just a tree i used to climb as a kid in Dorset.

Grandad

Haven't updated in while, it seems i get into "bursts" of posting, where i share a lot of stuff in a relatively small amount of time.

Anyway, as part of my AS art project last year i did a number of paintings of my grandad that i've dug up, and thought i would share two of them with you.

pearl clouds

this is a painting i made of a beach, somewhere in brighton i think. My grandfathers close friend Gordon took a photo of the scene that i worked from, the same man that i have previously done a portrait of.

an old walk

this is a painting of again dorset, an old walk that i used to take as a child with my family. In this painting i tried to capture a style that my grandad used to use as an artist, using bold, evocative colours rather than dull, even perhaps real, ones.

towards a sunset

This is quite a personal portrait of mine, and is my first practice in oils which i am now very fond of (compared to acrylics i prefer the consistancy, and general feel- however they are quite messy). The figure is my grandad, walking towards his sunset.

the golden field

this is another image from dorset, at my granddad's farm. it was done on the spot at the bottom of one of his fields.

Winter Watercolour

this is a painting that i had done about 9 months ago now of an image i took in dorset back when it was snowing.

pop art

Here's a bit of work from GCSE's- not really a fan of pop art actually but our first project was based on it. I think some of its by Andy Worhol or similar artists?

Dorset Steam fair

My grandad, whilst still a practicing artist, originally composed this painting. Its at the Dorset steam fair which is held yearly, and is of a workshop that the people there put on to show how hay bails are made- something like that anyway.

The difference between the paintings, mine and his, are that his was done in oil at about 30" x 24" and mine is a small oil pastel drawing of 7" by 5.

Altea

My parents went to spain last year and came back with a lot of photos from which i have made many studies, this is just one of them that is done in oil pastels

still life pen and ink

technical sketch that i did during my GCSE's- done on printing paper.

Saturday, 26 June 2010

This is a watercolour painting done from a photograph of my art teacher/mentor at college david. Not sure of the sizing, its currrently waiting to get back to me from moderation (I put it into one of my AS projects).

And don't moan at me and say its not a precise copy, 'cause thats not what i was trying to do.

got a fair few pictures to go yet...

life drawings

I attended a couple of life drawing sessions in my AS year at college, these three are favorites and were all done in about twenty minutes each in one session.

Gordon

This ones of a good friend of my grandad called Gordon, so i took it upon myself to try and do a good job. I've since given it to the 'ol fella and as far as i know hes gotten it framed, sitting in his dining room.

Just so happen to be going to a big band concert with him and the family tomorrow; should be fun.
